When women first started painting their nails is not known. However, sources have shown that Indian women decorated their fingertips with henna around 5000 BC. The first "nail polishes" consisted of gum arabic, gelatin, beeswax and vegetable dyes.
It wasn't until 1932 that real nail polishes in jars came onto the market, they were inspired by car paint!
The first experiments with acrylic nails began in 1930, but it wasn't until 1970 that the general public really started using them.
