Permanent hair removal
For many people, it's a nightmare: recurring hair on their legs, back, or upper lip. Shaving, waxing, and depilatory creams offer only temporary relief; the hair always grows back. There's a better way. For example, if you don't just remove the hair, but tackle the problem at its root—the hair follicle!—you'll reap lasting results.
How do we tackle couperose?
We do this with a high-energy light pulse with a broad-spectrum wavelength between 650 and 950 nanometers. The hairs ensure perfect conduction of the light energy to the hair follicle. Thanks to selective heating, we disable the hair follicle without damaging the skin structure. The result? Long-lasting hair removal that can be permanent after several treatments.
How many treatments are needed?
On average, up to eight treatments are needed, with a six-week break between each session. Hair growth varies from person to person. It depends on age, weight, metabolism, hormones, medications, and ethnic background.
Despite these differences, each hair goes through three developmental stages:
- Active phase or anagen phase: During this phase, our hair grows, and pigment or melanin is present around the hair root. Approximately 85 percent of all our hair is in this phase.
- Regressive phase or catagen phase: a two-week period during which an active hair stops growing. About 5 percent of our hair is in this phase.
- Resting phase or telogen phase: this period lasts about six weeks. After that, the hairs fall out spontaneously and a new growth cycle begins. Approximately 10 percent of hairs are in this phase. The laser and IPL light affect the pigmentation or melanin in the hairs. Therefore, we can only treat the hairs when they are in the first phase. Because not all hairs are in this growth phase at the same time, several treatments are necessary.
Is any hair type eligible?
In principle, any hair type is suitable. Thanks to this method, we can permanently remove unwanted hair growth anywhere on the body. There is only one caveat: your hair must not be too blond. Blond hair indicates insufficient pigment for effective heating and conduction of light energy to the hair follicle. Skin that has been tanned by the sun or a tanning bed should also not be treated.
Is this method suitable for everyone?
On average, 7 to 9 percent of the population responds little or not at all to hair removal using laser light or light pulses. These are the so-called "non-responders." There are no tests that can determine in advance whether you fall into this group. Therefore, after three sessions, you decide whether to continue the treatment. Treatments performed are not reimbursed.
What precautions do you take yourself?
- Let your hair grow for a few days before each treatment, about 1 to 2 mm. This ensures perfect conduction of the light energy to the hair follicle.
- You may not wax or tweeze the hairs until after your last treatment. This is also true for four weeks before your first treatment. Shaving or using a hair removal cream is permitted.
- Do not expose your skin to the sun or tanning beds. UV rays can disrupt your pigmentation. Carefully cover the areas being treated: from four weeks before the first treatment until four weeks after the last treatment.
