The eighteenth century was the undisputed reign of King Louis XV. France was the flagship of fragrances, with Grasse and Paris as leading places.
Every day the king requested a different scent for his apartments and streams of aromatic fragrance flowed from the royal fountains.
Known for its fragrance extravagances, the court was called “la cour parfumée” (the perfumed court).
The best fragrances of all time were invented during this period by the king's devoted perfumer 'Jean Fargeon'.
The king decided to make the castle of Louis XIV, built by Louis XIV, more important by dedicating it to the well-being of the horses.
As an ardent admirer of horses, Louis XV always tried to improve equine qualities by cross-breeding them.
He was presented with 8 Arabian horses by the King of Tunisia, 'Bey de Tunis'.

Among them are the Darley Arabian, Godolphin Arabian and the Byerley Turk.
These horses were the basis of thoroughbred Arabian breed mixed with the strong and long European breed. In 1743, in memory of his great-grandfather Louis XIV, Louis XV had Guillaume Coustou sculpted his famous masterpiece on the grounds of the Château de Marly (Marly Castle).
This magnificent work of art, known as "The Marly Horses," earned a place on the Champs Elysees Avenue in the heart of Paris in 1974, where it can still be admired today.

The originals are kept in the Louvre Museum in an old court called la Cour Marly (court of Marly).
Parfums de Marly revives the spirit of the lavish receptions and festivities held at the Château de Marly, for the enjoyment of members of the Royal Court and foreign dignitaries.
Through its original concept, Parfums de Marly revives the spirit of fragrances from the splendor of the eighteenth century, when the finest perfumes were created for King Louis XV as a tribute to the prestigious horse racing that he so ardently admired.
